All About Us 'Cycle Training East CIC' is a 'not for profit' Community Interest Company based in North Essex. CIC or 'Community Interest Company' refers to the legal format, recently introduced by Companies House, (the UK company regulator) for 'not-for-profit' companies, set up to promote 'community interest projects'. It ensures we are here to just for our mission of promoting 'safe cycling' as an efficient and environmentally friendly means of transport; and as a sport and pastime for everyone. All our income goes towards this! The 'National Standard' Cycling Award for adults and children was introduced in 2004 to replace 'Cycling Proficiency' and has now been updated and further developed into 'Bikeability'. All our directors have this Department-of-Transport sponsored qualification. Our directors are cycling instructors Jeff Wade and Peter Whiteley. Jeff Wade, our 'Director of Operations and Chief Instructor' is a Chelmsford based 'British Cycling Coach', a Sports Coach UK 'coach tutor' and the secretary of Chelmer Cycling Club. Jeff was sponsored by Essex County Council's Road Safety Team to complete his 'National Standard' instructor training. Director Peter Whiteley, is a Sustrans Ranger and regular club cyclist. Cycle Training East is one of only 12 companies who are accredited as 'Instructor Training Companies'. We are qualified to train 'Bikeability' instructors as well as cyclists. Our directors sit on the CTRG (Cycle Training Reference Group) who are responsible for setting the 'National Standards' for cycle training. All Cycle Training East's regular instructors share our company's aim of encouraging more people to cycle, for leisure, pleasure and utility purposes, or environmental reasons. Cycle Training East operates primarily in Essex and Suffolk, but is expanding into other areas. We are currently training Adults, Children, Family Groups, Schools, Special Needs Schools, Companies, Hospital Trusts, Universities and indeed anyone who wants to cycle. Our training covers from complete novices, to those who cycled when they were younger, but now lack the confidence to cope with today's roads. We are providing cycle training for 200 Essex Police Community Support Officers who are using cycles to increase the range and access of their beat areas. We've trained Essex County Council staff, Mid Essex Hospital's staff, St John Ambulance staff (cycling Paramedics); youngsters who need to cycle to school, people who need to cycle for their job, or who want to improve their health by means of a non-impact healthy exercise, or people who simply want to enjoy a new sport and pastime. All are accommodated by our wide involvement in safe cycling.
